Snow!
Posted on December 4, 2009
If you live in Houston, then you definitely know about all the snow hullabaloo this afternoon. Our town gets so excited if a little snow falls out of the sky, and we’re simply beside ourselves if it actually sticks to the ground.
Having grown up in Chicago I’m no stranger to snow, but Kacie has rarely experienced it. I’m very excited that Caden got to see some his first winter (although I know he won’t remember it). At least we got some pictures.
You may or may not know that we started a family blog that Kacie is maintaining. It is over at TheNyholts.com. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out! She posts lots of pictures and stories, mainly about Caden. Below are a couple pictures from today, but there are more to see over at the family blog, so check it out!
Merry Christmas, and enjoy this freezing cold weather! Come next July you’ll be begging for it!

Announcing Conception Photography!
Posted on April 1, 2009
With the growing popularity of honeymoon photography, pregnancy photography, and even birthing photography the wedding photographer’s service offering has never been so comprehensive. We’re here to capture all of life’s most exciting moments, from wedding day to grandchildren. My studio, however, is always on the cutting edge of photography trends– so much that we offer services to our clients well before they become mainstream. It is this no-compromise attitude that has given birth to our newest offering– conception photography.
It seemed to us that there was a gaping hole in the services offered by the photography community. We photograph your wedding, your children, and your children’s children. We create images from the beautiful form of the pregnant woman, but we miss an important element– how that baby was made! Why this opportunity to capture such a beautiful event has escaped us for so long, we may never know, but for the discerning photography client, it is now a reality!
Conception photography is not for everyone. Trying for a baby can be difficult, sometimes taking months, and often involves several attempts a day. The amount of coverage required to finally capture that decisive moment on film (we only shoot film) can cost a considerable amount. This is why each client is custom quoted a price based on several key factors including your family history. Also, we offer an early success discount for those lucky clients that conceive in the first 3 attempts.
The images from your conception event will be tastefully displayed in a large flush-mount album. An heirloom quality book to be kept for generations, and shared with loved ones over and over again. Beautifully finished wall prints and canvas wraps are also available for you to adorn the walls of your home.
As you can tell, we are very excited about this new service, and feel it will be a huge hit! For more pricing details, and to see a sample of my portfolio, click here.

Holy Bandwidth, Batman!
Posted on December 17, 2008
(Please excuse me while I geek out for a minute here)
WOW! Today Comcast FINALLY came out to my house and got me setup with a business class 16/2 internet connection. And it is SMOKIN! For the past year and a half I’ve been using a shared T1 which was getting me 1 meg up and less than 1 meg down, and it was painfully slow! (That’s worse than DSL!) Now I’m testing at 22 megs down and 2 megs up!!! (Normal cable is something like 6 megs down.) Check it out:
My blog, which is the ultimate example of a slow loading web page (sorry!) fully loads in less than 5 seconds. Normal pages like yahoo, amazon, et al. load instantly! Downloading music from iTunes and amazon is insanely fast!
Ok, sorry to gloat. I’m just so excited that I no longer have bandwidth envy when I go over to my friends’ houses.

Updated the site!
Posted on December 16, 2008
So I finally took the time yesterday to sit down for like 5 hours and update all the images on my site. I hadn’t realized how dated some of those images were! The site is now almost entirely made up of new photos (from 2008). Anyway, check it out if you get a chance!
Also, I’m in the process of researching a new website. I don’t know if I’ll go with a template or have someone do a custom design for me. If anyone has a recommendation, leave a comment!

Rachel Ray’s Mass Wedding
Posted on November 7, 2008
Last weekend Rachel Ray came to Houston and hosted a mass wedding at Minute Maid park for 50 couples whose wedding plans were ruined by either Hurricane Ike or the closure of Bella Teraza and The Tuscany. I, along with a dozen or so more houston wedding photographers, was invited to attend the event and take portraits of the couples and their families. It was quite an experience! Despite a little lack of organization that frustrated us photographers, the event went very well, and served as an incredible blessing to the happy couples who got to participate. The wedding was taped and will be aired on the Rachel Ray show in late november. Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to post any pictures until after the air date, so check back here after you see it on tv for a little behind-the-scenes action!
UPDATE: The air date for the show is Friday, November 21st. Check your local listings for the exact time and channel. In Houston that’s Channel 2 (KPRC) at 2:00pm. There was a camera guy filming me while I worked with one of my brides, so maybe I’ll be on TV!

Facebookin like crazy
Posted on October 3, 2008
So right now we’re in Kansas City, getting ready for Patricia and Pete’s wedding tomorrow. She was supposed to have it in Galveston this weekend, but for obvious reasons that wasn’t going to work, so they moved the whole thing to KC, where they have family. Anyway, I’ll definitely be blogging some photos soon, but for now you should check my facebook. I’ve been uploading random photos and making comments throughout the trip, so if you’re not my friend, friend me now!!! Just search for Adam Nyholt– I’m the only one

Weddings in Houston Magazine Ad
Posted on September 2, 2008
I spent Memorial Weekend on a lake in East Texas hanging out with a bunch of my best friends (pictures to come), among them was Chris Figat, who is the mastermind behind my branding and identity. He has helped me with everything from my logo, to my business cards, price booklets, website, blog, even my bridal show booth. Basically anything design related. When it came time to design my first print ad (a full page, full bleed ad in Weddings in Houston Magazine), I hired him to do the design, and over the weekend we put a lot of work into it and came up with a final piece.
It is amazing how the design process works. He and Kacie and I spent HOURS and HOURS discussing, sketching, writing, and arguing over what form the ad should take. At one point everyone who was there was chipping in with ideas (I have great friends, most of whom are at least semi-creative). We wanted something that would really stand out, and have a “designed” feel to it. This doesn’t mean elaborate and complicated– just that it looks professional. This is what we came up with:
It is amazing how simple it turned out after all that time spent conceptualizing, drafting, and starting all over again. You might say that all that time was wasted, but that is the secret behind great design. All the other ideas we threw out were very important clues along the trail that took us to what we were really looking for. We had a few good concepts that involved some text in the ad, but when we settled on a picture for the ad we found that the image was really able to speak for itself. The only elements we needed to add were my logo and basic contact info, which we did as minimalist as possible, consistent with my branding and style. All-in-all I think the piece is very strong, and will succeed at both portraying the kind of work I do and the style in which I do it. Mad props to Chris!
Sorry for the long post, but I know some of you designer-types would appreciate this. Have a great week!

My apologies….
Posted on July 24, 2008
… To my clients who haven’t seen their pictures up on my blog yet. My goal is to blog every shoot I do. Lately I have been soooo busy that I’ve decided to prioritize posting weddings. They may not be in order, but so far I’ve been getting every one up (right now I’m up to mid-May). However, there have been quite a few fantastic engagement and bridal portrait sessions that I just haven’t got up yet. If you haven’t seen yours on my blog, don’t worry! I plan on catching up eventually!
