Ashley and Paul’s Groomals
Posted on April 23, 2010
What’s a Groomal you ask? It’s kind of like a bridal portrait, but throw in a groom for good measure. Groomal.
Ashley and Paul are simply one of my favorite couples ever. They booked me for their wedding over a year out, and ever since we took their engagements waaaay back in 2008, I knew they were going to be a blast to work with. Their wedding at Holy Rosary/Hotel Derek last November was killer, and when we finally got around to taking their groomals (after getting rained out 3 times) a few weeks ago, they did not disappoint. Anyway, here are some of my favorite images from the session. Please leave a comment if you like what you see!
We started off at Hotel Derek. (Thank you Stacy for hooking us up!)

This one is going on the first page of their wedding album. Cuz’ they’re cool like that.

Then we took advantage of the gorgeous weather and finished up at Uptown Park.

Love love love this last one (bottom right)! Paul says it makes them look cooler than they actually are. I said maybe you guys just are that cool!

Thank you Ashley and Paul for being such awesome clients!

Callie and Casey’s Wedding
Posted on August 5, 2009
Callie and Casey are good friends of ours from church. They are part of a small group that we lead in our home. I remember Casey telling the guys in our group over the course of several weeks that he was preparing to propose to Callie. We were very excited for him, but he vowed us to secrecy, even from our wives! I can say that I kept the secret, even from Kacie! I don’t know about the other guys, though….One Wednesday night before our group started us guys were in the house, and Casey came strolling in. Simultaneously we hear lots of squealing coming from the front porch– we knew what happened
Shortly after that, Callie and Casey asked me to shoot their wedding, and I was very honored. After a beautiful wedding and receptionĀ held at Prestonwood Baptist church in Plano, TX, we went into downtown Dallas to take some portraits for an hour or so. We got some great stuff, and I highly recommend scheduling some day-of portrait time if you can work it in to your wedding day! Here are some of my favorites from the day.

Often times I ask the girls to give me the “fake sorority laugh”, and this group could pull it off!

Definitely one of my favorite bridesmaids shots!

Remember those eyes from their engagement session?

Prestonwood’s chapel was gorgeous.

And well lit, which makes a photographer happy

Announcing Mr. and Mrs. Casey Cox

Casey is a little bit of a book worm

Gotta love those aggies!

Annnnd the portrait session!

Love it!

Love it again!

This one took some mad climbing skills!

We finished the shoot at Dallas’ Hotel Zaza. The Zaza in Houston is very strict about photography, so we were a little nervous, but we just walked in like we owned the place and no one gave us any problems! Had we run into trouble though, I was prepared with 5 freshly minted 1-dollar bills. “Really? We can’t shoot here? Let’s see what Mr. Washington has to say about that….”

Good work, Callie and Casey!
Don’t forget THE SLIDESHOW!

Cindy and Richard’s “Groomals”
Posted on May 17, 2009
So a “groomal” session is like a bridal portrait session, but with the bride AND the groom. Some people call them “day after” sessions, or even Trash the Dress (TTD) sessions (if indeed the dress is trashed). This ended up being a TTD, even though it wasn’t originally planned….
Cindy and Richard are an amazing couple, and are incredibly fun to be around. Their engagement portraits were awesome, their wedding was awesome, so you could only expect their groomals to be awesome! We shot in this really cool abandoned building in the warehouse district, and then, like their engagement portraits, we finished things off with a little water…..
Love it!
Love it again!
It got VERY dark in there, so the only way I could focus was to have blake light up his iPhone and hold it in front of them….
Don’t drop that umbrella, Richard….!
… or you’ll get… wet ![]()
Thanks for a great shoot, Richard and Cindy, and thanks for being willing to ruin your clothes!

Samar and Jason’s Groomals
Posted on October 8, 2008
Groomals are kind of like bridals, but with a guy in a tux added just for fun
Really though, the day of the wedding is not usually a good time to get great portraits of you two in your dress and tux. There just isn’t enough time. Some of my clients opt for groomals, sometimes known as “Day After Sessions” (even if they’re not technically the day after).
Jason and Samar scheduled a session for one week after their wedding. We shot for quite a while, workin’ it all over the downtown area, and got some great images! Check em out.
