Reese Barden — Newborn and family photography
Posted on August 18, 2010
I’m very excited to post these images! Baby Reese is the newest addition to the family of some of my best friends! We took her newborn photos at 10 days old, which is ideal because that’s when newborns are the sleepiest. However, Reese still put up a little bit of a fight. But wouldn’t you if I stuffed you in a bird cage and hung you from a C-stand?
Many thanks to Chris and Suzie for the honor of shooting their precious daughter, and even more thanks to them for letting me try my crazy idea!
This top image is the result of at least an hour of effort. But it was worth it! Can someone say giant gallery wrap?!?

And then we got this adorable image with a custom-maid tutu for Reese!

This is Reese’s big sister, Kaley, who I also took newborn photos of. Here she’s helping me test my lighting.

Big brother Cooper, Kaley, and Reese.

And a quick shot of the whole family!

Meet Dan, Julie, Eden and Carter. They are good friends from our church and when they asked me to take their family portraits I was thrilled! Here are a few of my favorites from our session in the warehouse/art-studio district of downtown.

Signature Session- Vivian Burch’s Newborn Portraits
Posted on February 23, 2010
Now that I have one of my own, I’ve found I really love working with babies and kids! Last week I had the opportunity to take newborn photos for one of my former wedding clients. Her daughter, Vivian, was two weeks old when we took her portraits and she’s absolutely beautiful! Newborns can be a challenge because if they’re not sleepy they can be quite squirmy and active. Well, Vivian was not sleepy but she did eventually cooperate (as much as a newborn can) and we got some very cute portraits. Here are some of my favorites!
Soooo cute.

My sister got us this box and I grabbed in on the way out for a prop.

How stinkin’ cute is she?!?

I think this one’s my fave.

Thanks for looking! If you feel like it, leave a little comment love!

Dean and Family – Baby and Family Photography – Katy, TX
Posted on December 4, 2009
Sarah was a bridesmaid at Marlo and Justin’s wedding. I remembered her because she looked like she was about to pop, just like Kacie did.
When she contacted me about taking pictures of her baby boy, Dean, I was super excited. We did the session at their home in Katy. With a beautiful family like this I knew I’d get some portfolio shots. And I think I did!
The new family relaxing on the bed.

I told Sarah Kacie would be buying this exact same outfit for Caden as soon as she saw these pictures. She did.

Sooooo darn cute! (Oh, and how PERFECT is that wall paper?!?!)

Im such a sucker for sun flare, even if it’s bounced off an aluminum window ledge.

Such a sweet moment.

And we’ll finish with one more shot in the super cute outfit.

Thanks for letting me photography your beautiful family, Sarah, Michael, and Dean!

Caden’s Newborn Photos: First Attempt
Posted on August 10, 2009
I have to say I have a renewed respect for baby photographers. Over the past week Kacie and I have tried our hand at newborn photography with our always-willing subject, Caden
Every single prop we used has been peed on, pooped on, and spit-up on. The same goes for Kacie and I. Finally we learned to keep the diaper on for as many shots as possible, and just hide it from view. Another challenge was Caden was simply too awake. It’s better to do these newborn photos in a baby’s first week, when they are very sleepy. Now it is hard to find a time when he is konked-out enough for us to contort him into all kinds of positions without him waking up.
Despite all those challenges, I still managed to get a couple decent shots. Here are some from our shoot yesterday.
This is when he finally closed his eyes for a few seconds.

Kacie and I love when he makes his “little mouth” face.

At least we got one good one

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes shot of our setup. A giant soft-box lit the scene while we hung Caden from a blanket attached to a C-stand. As you can see above, Kacie was on-spot. Most of the above shots were taken at 1/250 s, F/4, ISO 200 with the 24-70mm f/2.8 on a D3.

And here are a couple from a shoot we did a few days ago with Caden’s 2nd cousin, Abby. These were shot with natural light.

They insisted on trying to eat eachother

Thanks for looking! We’re planning on shooting some more today/tomorrow if we can find a good time when Caden is completely asleep. As always, feel free to leave a comment if you like the photos!

Meet the Butcher Family
Posted on May 26, 2009
Josh and Lesley are two of the smartest people I know, and Jaden is definitely one of the smartest 2 year olds I have ever met! I did this session for them as a thank-you for a little piece of custom software Josh wrote for me (which has definitely made my life easier!) and we had a ton of fun! Jaden was in a great mood, Lesley was beautiful, and Josh was, well, Josh.
Enjoy some of my favorites from the session!

Barden Family!
Posted on May 14, 2009
More of Kacie’s Pictures! The Bardens (Chris, Suzie, Cooper, and Kaley) are very close friends of ours, and this was Kacie’s first family portrait session! I think she did an amazing job! She’s working on building her skills and Chris and Suzie volunteered their family to be our her guinea pigs! Leave some love and let Kacie know how great she did!
