Nashville, TN
Posted on August 31, 2009
Here’s a quick iPhone post from the airport in Nashville! I’m headed home after an incredible engagement session with Korie and Kirk, who are getting married in Houston next year. Nashville is an incredibly cool city! I wish I had more time here, but I’m excited to get back to the family.
Make sure to check back for pictures from the session yesterday, and if you’re a client of mine and want to schedule a “destination” engagement session, let’s talk!
I leave you with with an iPhone picture of the Parthenon I snapped while location scouting on Friday. Time to catch my plane!

Jud Johnson Band at the House of Blues
Posted on August 28, 2009
My brother in law, Jud, is a very talented musician and has an incredibly good band, the Jud Johnson Band. Their style is very Jam Band, kind of Dave Matthew-esque, and they have some really good stuff. Check out their site! http://www.judjohnsonband.com.
Anyway, when I found out they were playing again at the House of Blues I asked Jud if I could shoot their set, just for fun. There are always a lot of photographers wanting to shoot for them, so I was pleased when he agreed to have me come along!
Nigel on Guitar

Enter Jud.

Scott Cole, an old friend, on Bass.

Zach on the Sax.

Ben is also an old friend, and an incredible drummer.

Thanks for looking! Don’t forget to leave a comment and check out Jud’s Music.

Stacia and Dimitri’s Wedding – Annunciation Orthodox Church and The Crystal Ballroom
Posted on August 26, 2009
I met Stacia through her father, George, who owns a great lighting/production company. I met George back at Samar and Jason’s wedding because he was doing their lighting. Anyway, Stacia and Dimitri are a really fun couple and totally in love. Their wedding was a blast to shoot! Enjoy some of my favorites from the day:
Stacia got ready at the fabulous Magnolia hotel.

Meanwhile, Dimitri and the guys prepared at the church.

I love orthodox churches! So beautiful!

Off to the reception!

And a few portraits snuck in…

Of course they had good lighting

And the big finish!

Minou and Josh’s Engagement Portraits – The Houstonian
Posted on August 25, 2009
Minou and Josh are a great couple! They have a fun story about how they got together, and when you’re around them you can tell how much they’re in love! We took their engagement portraits at The Houstonian, then Minou’s family invited Kacie, Caden, Blake and I over for some fantastic persian food! We also got to meet Josh’s beautiful daughter, Skylar. I’m very excited about their wedding coming up in September!
Here are some of my favorites from the shoot.

Penelope and Tom’s Wedding – The Crystal Ballroom – Houston, TX
Posted on August 24, 2009
Tom is a fellow photographer and friend of mine, and Penelope is his beautiful and talented wife. I was very honored to shoot their wedding, and after fantastic engagement and bridal portrait sessions I knew it was going to be a blast! They were married at a very cool old church in Midtown, and held their reception at the Crystal Ballroom downtown, where Jamie (the catering manager) made sure everything went great! Below are some of my favorites from the day!

Tom, as a surprise to Penelope and everyone else, shaved his beard off for the first time in over 3 years! It was funny seeing everyone’s reaction to a smooth-faced Tom!

Hooray for beautiful bouquets and cool old doors!

And gorgeous dresses!

And cool old windows!

Tom’s dad performed the ceremony.

CRAVE CUPCAKES!!!

I hear this guy is on Obama’s staff….

Crazy Aggies

Annnnnd we wrapped it up with a mini session downtown!

Thanks for letting me be a part of your day, guys!
Everyone leave a comment so you don’t hurt Penelope and Tom’s feelings!

Caden Waking Up
Posted on August 17, 2009
What’s that? You want to see more of my ridiculously cute son? I don’t know…. I don’t wanna brag but… OK! Here’s a video Kacie took of him waking up one morning. It is ridiculously cute. It was taken on our D90, which takes very nice video, but is manual focus, so forgive our out-of-focusness as we tackle the learning curve.
What’s crazy is that this is remarkably similar to my waking-up routine…….

Jessica and Christopher’s Wedding
Posted on August 17, 2009
Jessica and Christopher were married at St. Austin’s Catholic Church, in Austin, and then had a great reception at The Terrace Club out in the hills. Have I ever mentioned I LOVE Austin? It doesn’t take much to get me to go out there! Throw in a great couple with great families, and now we’re talking! I’ve had to good fortune of working with this family quite a bit. Last year I shot Christopher’s sister’s wedding, and a week after this one I shot his cousin’s wedding (pics to come!).
Anyway, the wedding was beautiful, Jessica and Chris were in love, and the guests had a great time. What else could you ask for? Enjoy some of my favorite images from the day.

Getting ready at the HUUUGE bridal suite at the Renaissance.

The hairdressers thought I was a little crazy when I said “Can you hit her with 4 cans of hair spray at the same time?”

There is definitely no shortage of really cool backdrops in downtown Austin.

Announcing……

Try not to cry. Try not to cry. Try not to cry. =P

It looks like Taryn caught this one, but it slipped right through her hands. Then it was a free for all on the floor!

Amanda and Fred, whose wedding I shot the following weekend.

I LOOOOOOVE it when we can get some gorgeous wedding-day portraits of the bride and groom!

Annnnnnnnd the getaway!

Thanks for having me be a part of your wedding, Jessica and Christopher!

Caden’s Newborn Photos: First Attempt
Posted on August 10, 2009
I have to say I have a renewed respect for baby photographers. Over the past week Kacie and I have tried our hand at newborn photography with our always-willing subject, Caden
Every single prop we used has been peed on, pooped on, and spit-up on. The same goes for Kacie and I. Finally we learned to keep the diaper on for as many shots as possible, and just hide it from view. Another challenge was Caden was simply too awake. It’s better to do these newborn photos in a baby’s first week, when they are very sleepy. Now it is hard to find a time when he is konked-out enough for us to contort him into all kinds of positions without him waking up.
Despite all those challenges, I still managed to get a couple decent shots. Here are some from our shoot yesterday.
This is when he finally closed his eyes for a few seconds.

Kacie and I love when he makes his “little mouth” face.

At least we got one good one

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes shot of our setup. A giant soft-box lit the scene while we hung Caden from a blanket attached to a C-stand. As you can see above, Kacie was on-spot. Most of the above shots were taken at 1/250 s, F/4, ISO 200 with the 24-70mm f/2.8 on a D3.

And here are a couple from a shoot we did a few days ago with Caden’s 2nd cousin, Abby. These were shot with natural light.

They insisted on trying to eat eachother

Thanks for looking! We’re planning on shooting some more today/tomorrow if we can find a good time when Caden is completely asleep. As always, feel free to leave a comment if you like the photos!
