Candice and Josh’s Engagements – Midtown, Houston

  • Q. Where did you meet?
    A. We have actually known each other since we were in the same class in 3rd grade at Palmer Elementary. Although we didn’t really hang out much until the year we started dating, 2003. So I guess you could say that we “re-met” in June of 2003 when a friend and I met up with her at the movies to see The Italian Job. We sat 2 seats down from one another in the theater, and our interest had piqued after only a few words.
  • Q. What was your first impression of him?
    A. My first impression of him was way back in 3rd grade:) He probably doesn’t know but I thought he was the cutest boy in our class, but I was really shy back then so I didn’t talk to him very often…plus I’m sure he thought I still had cooties!
  • Q. What was your first impression of her?
    A. My impression of her, once I starting seeing her more as we got older, was that she was way out of my league! She was on the dance team in high school, one of the most popular girls in our grade, and was beautiful. Did I think there was any way that I was going to get a shot with this amazing girl? No chance. But once I got to talk with her I realized how down to earth and easy going that she really is, and of course her beauty became even more apparent as well.
  • Q. What did you do for your first date?
    A. Our first date was, technically, at the movies when she met up me and my friend. Granted, at that time, I don’t think she was too interested in me, yet. But then a few day later I was invited to go with her, her family, and a lot of mutual friends and people we know, to go to Fajita Flats for her birthday dinner, which was our first time being out together as a “couple”. I don’t know if her close friends approved of me on that day, but I guess I must’ve done something right.
  • Q. When did you know he was the one?
    A. It was my senior year of college and we were living together in our first apartment, we had also decided to take a break from one another for a few months. We were obviously still interacting on a daily basis and were very close, and of course he stayed persistent in not giving up on us. One night we both were feeling extremely honest, and got all of our feelings out into the open, and a couple hours later I knew that he loved me for me. I was ready to marry him that night:) From that point on, there was never any doubt I would spend the rest of my life with him.
  • Q. When did you know she was the one?
    A. I know this may sound a bit crazy, because I was only 15 at the time, but about a month after we started dating I went with my family to Destin for July 4th. I remember wishing I was back home with her and I talked to her on the phone everyday. When I was there, on the beach, I remember it becoming clear to me that my life would not be the same again, and I didn’t want it to be.
  • Q. How did he pop the question?
    A. We were in Las Vegas celebrating my 25th birthday with my family, and what I thought was going to be a regular day turned out completely different. Every time we had been to Las Vegas we always said we wanted to go to the top of the Stratosphere but it never happened, so this time we were determined to make it happen. I was pumped because I thought it would be hilarious to see him on top of the stratosphere (he is terrified of heights), plus they have rides on top! When we started to go up the elevator he looked so nervous I started to feel bad, but he was persistent on going all the way to the top. When we got up there you were able to see all of the Las Vegas strip and the beautiful desert. As we were leaning over the edge he starts talking about the future and then mentions something about a hot air balloon, which grabs my attention and all of a sudden I turn around and he is on one knee with a box in handp.s. I had NO clue the whole time!
  • Q. What do you love the most about him?
    A. I love that he has become very passionate about things that interest him; he is passionate about politics, school, his sport teams, new ideas, and his family. I love that he is passionate about me, and that he always puts me first and he makes me feel protected. He is my biggest supporter and always believes in me even when I don’t. I love that I can be my self around him 🙂
  • Q. What do you love the most about her?
    A. I love that she is so warm hearted and always finds the good in everyone and in every situation. It’s easy to be negative about things sometimes, but she always balances me out and makes me look at everything in a different light. She really is my counter-weight in all things.
  • Q. Does he have any funny quirks?
    A. He said I had to be nice on this one….and I was taught that if you can’t say anything nice you shouldn’t say anything at all lol
  • Q. Does she have any funny quirks?
    A. She really enjoys being weird and goofy and I also think she secretly likes playing devil’s advocate with me when it comes to politics and other things. She also REALLY enjoys corny movies and TV shows and laughs hysterically at them!
  • Q. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced together?
    A. The year after we graduated high school we moved to different cities; I moved to College Station and Candice moved to San Marcos for school. It was really tough being away from each other 5 days a week, especially after we had spent the previous 2 years seeing one another every day. We made it work and probably spent way too much money on gas for TONS of trips between our 2 cities to see one another. But, it definitely made us realize what we had and that it was real, and we were willing to do anything to make it work.
  • Q. What’s the secret to your happy relationship?
    A. For us, there was never any secret tricks that made us who we became. We really just took the time to really get to know one another and became each others best friend. Once we got to that point, there was no keeping us apart.
  • Q. Is there anything else you would like to share? 🙂
    A. We are so excited that you will be joining us in Las Vegas to celebrate our amazing wedding! We are so grateful to have a wonderful photographer to capture the true raw moments on our special day 🙂
