Joy and Michael’s Engagement Session – Museum District

Joy and Michael live in New York but are having their wedding here in Houston. They were in town for a visit so we were able to meet up and shoot their engagement photos in the museum district. These guys are a great couple! Make sure to read their love story at the end of the post and check out their videos too! I especially love the one of Joy as a little girl singing her heart out!

Q. Where did you meet?
A. In Miami while vacationing over spring break. Little did we know that we each went to Emory University!

Q. What was your first impression of him?
A. Sweet and funny. He held my hand as we crossed the street!

Q. What was your first impression of her?
A. There’s no chance this girl is single… but if she is I’m going to get her and never let her go.

Q. What did you do for your first date?
A. Went for tapas at Eclipse d’Luna in Atlanta and shared a pitcher of sangria.

Q. When did you know he was the one?
A. After we spent my entire sorority formal weekend together, he dropped me off but didn’t want to let me go. Before I even grabbed my bags, he asked me what my plans for the night were and asked me out for dinner. I knew he enjoyed hanging out with me as much as I did with him, and from there, we each booked flights to visit each other in our hometowns that summer – just weeks later. He came to meet my family in Houston – his first trip to Texas – and I went to NY, where his mother claimed she knew I was “the one” during that visit.

Q. When did you know she was the one?
A. Joy has this cute/perky side to her that I can’t resist. It was evident even in her early years…..

Q. How did he pop the question?
A. At a beautiful vineyard in the Hamptons. As we walked from the gazebo to the tasting room, he told me he hadn’t yet told my parents and that I could now call to tell them the good news. As I was dialing their number, my whole family – parents and brother from Houston and sister, brother-in-law and niece from San Francisco – and his parents and siblings surprised me!  We then had a full weekend in the Hamptons, followed by a pool party with our best friends the next day. It was perfect!

Q. What do you love the most about him?
A. His sincerity, generosity, and passion for the things he loves. I could sit with him all day in our apartment and be perfectly happy!

Q. What do you love the most about her?
A. She is the most loyal, trustworthy person I have ever met in my entire life.

Q. Does he have any funny quirks?
A. Yes, I think we each definitely have our silly moments!

Q. Does she have any funny quirks?
A. First off, she has the caffeine tolerance of a 3 year old after 1 skittle. When she becomes a bit “excited” she performs dances that are funny and unique to who Joy is. Her brother knows what I mean.

Q. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced together?
A. Probably our two year long distance relationship while Joy was still at college and Michael had graduated and moved to NYC – 5 months of which Joy was abroad in Spain.

Q. What’s the secret to your happy relationship?
A. Our understanding of one another. We love to travel together and go to romantic dinners!

Q. Is there anything else you would like to share? 🙂
A. This video shows how emotional Joy was when her family surprised her right after we got engaged!

I must give this photographer some credit; somehow he made the already ridiculously good looking couple look even more ridiculously good looking in these pictures. With this as the benchmark, there is some serious pressure on the wedding pictures to be able to top the bar that has been set! Boom.
